Public art trail to launch in MediaCityUK, Salford on November 22.
Penguin Ventures has confirmed its plans with Wild in Art to launch Walking with The Snowman, a new public art trail which will form part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Raymond Briggs’ original picture book.
Walking with The Snowman will be located at MediaCityUK, Salford and themed around the Twelve Days of Christmas, with different artists commissioned to create a unique design for each of the 12 giant sculptures.
The trail will open on November 22, 2018 and run until January 6, 2019. The giant sculptures will be auctioned online before Christmas and proceeds from the auction will be received by BBC Children in Need, which is confirmed as the charity partner.
“We’re delighted to be revisiting our partnership with Wild in Art to launch the very first Snowman art trail as part of our 40th anniversary celebrations for this iconic picture book,” said Izzy Richardson, head of brand management at Penguin Ventures. “Having BBC Children in Need on board as our charity partner is particularly exciting and we hope to raise as much money as possible to support their incredible work.
“We can’t wait to see the 12 designs for Walking with The Snowman and to see the response from the public.”
Ben Reed, head of creative development at Wild in Art, added: “Snowdog Art Trails continue to go from strength to strength, and during the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ original picture book, The Snowman, it seemed the perfect time to bring him to life in 3D sculpture form.
“The festive art trail is supported by businesses keen to support an event where artists, sponsors and schools work together to showcase their creativity using a classic character as the canvas. What’s more, this year’s legacy for Walking with The Snowman includes helping our chosen charity beneficiary, BBC Children in Need, raise valuable funds.”
