GAME buyers give us an insight into what’s selling well for them in the Christmas run up.
The Pokémon and PlayStation brands are among those which have impressed the licensing team at video games retailer GAME through the summer and into the Christmas period.
Gareth Newman, licensing and impulse category manager, and Lizzie Rose, licensing category manager – pictured with Sean Shreeve (centre), former licensing and impulse assistant (now at McLaren) – were among the judges of the product categories at this year’s Licensing Awards.
We asked them what was performing well currently and which properties they had their eyes on for the festive period.
Gareth Newman, licensing and impulse category manager, and Lizzie Rose, licensing category manager, GAME Digital:
“As I (Lizzie) joined GAME from Pokémon, I knew a lot of the background to the launch of Go and Sun & Moon at the end of this year. I always knew it would be huge!
“We were also braced for the popularity of Deadpool and have not been disappointed.
“The massive interest in gaming has meant that what were once seen as niche brands are now not so ‘niche’. But the fans know their stuff so the licensed merchandise can’t just be a ‘brand slap’ or they won’t buy it.
“We’re really liking how PlayStation has taken its brand and developed the style guide onto products. They are doing it right.”
