Top ten movies of 2015 named

Spectre, Star Wars, Jurassic World, The Avengers and Minions make up top five.

Seven of the top ten movies of 2015 are also strong licensed brands in the own right.

Rentrak this morning confirmed that 2015 was the biggest year of all time at the UK box office, with revenue for the year reaching $1.91 billion.

This is up from 2014’s $1.65 billion and surges past the previous record from 2012 of $1.72 billion.

The latest James Bond vehicle, Spectre, was the number one film for 2015 (as of December 31) having notched up $137.1 million.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($127m), Jurassic World ($94.1m), The Avengers: Age of Ultron ($70.5m) and Minions ($69.7m) made up the rest of the top five.

Number six was Inside Out ($57.2m), followed by Fast & Furious 7 ($56.3m), Fifty Shades of Grey ($51.2m), The Hunger Games: Mockingly, Part 2 ($41m) and Home ($37.1m).

Universal’s stellar 2015 gave it a 21% share of the overall UK market and gross $497.9m for the year. Disney was second with $381.3m.
