The Tiger Who Came to Tea scoops international Emmy

Festive special picks up the accolade for Best Animation at the 9th International Emmy Kids Awards.

Lupus Films and Harper Collins’ festive special The Tiger Who Came to Tea has roared to success at the 9th International Emmy Kids Awards, gobbling up the award for best animation.

The awards were announced yesterday (October 14) by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in a virtual presentation during Mipcom Online + TV market.

The Tiger Who Came to Tea fought off stiff competition from Ico Bit Zip from Brazil, Oddbods from Singapore and Finland’s Moominvalley to win the accolade.

It follows a string of award victories at Oscar-qualifying festivals around the world including Best 2D Film at the Animayo festival in Spain; Winner of the TV Jury Prize at the prestigious Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France; and Winner of Animated Encounters Grand Prix at the Encounters Film Festival in Bristol.

Premiering on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve, The Tiger Who Came to Tea attracted millions of viewers over the holiday period and became the network’s best-performing show of 2019 aside from The Great British Bake Off final.

“We are thrilled and honoured that The Tiger Who Came to Tea has been recognised with this prestigious international award, especially considering the quality of the competition in our category,” said Ruth Fielding, joint md of Lupus Films. “It’s all down to the exceptional work of Robin Shaw and the immensely talented team who worked tirelessly to bring Judith Kerr’s feline hero vividly to life.”

Ann-Janine Murtagh, executive publisher at HarperCollins Children’s Books, added: “We are so proud that The Tiger Who Came to Tea has been honoured with such a prestigious award.

“The book has delighted generations of children for over 50 years, and I know that Judith would have been thrilled to see this wonderful adaptation achieve such great success.”
