The Snowman coins on way to honour 40th

Penguin Ventures partners with The Royal Mint for launch of special 50p piece.

Penguin Ventures has once again teamed with The Royal Mint, this time for the launch of The Snowman coins to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the classic property.

The 50p piece will show The Snowman and James in the iconic flying scene and will be available in both coloured silver proof and brilliant uncirculated editions.

The move follows the success of a series of character coins launched by The Royal Mint together with Penguin Ventures in 2016 to celebrate 150 years of Beatrix Potter.

“It was a key ambition for us to work with The Royal Mint once again for the Snowman’s 40th anniversary,” said Thomas Merrington, creative director at Penguin Ventures. “He appeals to such a wide audience from grandparents to children alike and these beautiful coins will make perfect keepsakes for every fan of The Snowman.”

Nicola Howell, director of consumer coin at The Royal Mint, added: “We are thrilled to be working with Penguin Ventures again are delighted to be a part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of Raymond Briggs’ book The Snowman.

“Over the past few years, the Beatrix Potter collections have proved to be incredibly popular with our collectors and we believe the iconic flying scene of The Snowman and James captured on a commemorative 50 pence coin will be equally well treasured by children and adults alike.”

The partnership forms part of the wider anniversary plans for the Raymond Briggs’ original picture book in 2018.

Penguin Ventures will be celebrating the milestone with a series of collaborations and special edition anniversary gifts including books, clothing, toys and confectionery. A nationwide programme of events including orchestral and theatrical performances, special film screenings, an original art exhibition and unique immersive experience is also planned.
