To mark the 50th anniversary of Hello Kitty, the Monnaie de Paris has launched a new set of commemorative coins.
The institution has reimagined and questioned the shape of the coin and strikes cut with the contours of Hello Kitty.
The coins – of €10 in silver and €200 in gold – take on the iconic shape of the character holding a heart between her hands. On the reverse, there is a portrait of the character, on a background of ribbons.
In addition, there are also coloured coins in silver and gold featuring Hello Kitty in typical outfits from France and Japan, as well as two other solid gold coins which sees her marking the milestone anniversary with a cake.
There is also a Hello Kitty souvenir mini medal format.
“We are thrilled to celebrate Hello Kitty’s 50th anniversary with such a prestigious collaboration,” commented Silvia Figini, coo at Sanrio EMEA, India and Oceania, Mr Men Worldwide. “When you think that Hello Kitty’s success began with a coin purse, Monnaie de Paris couldn’t come up with a better idea to celebrate the 50 years of our lifestyle icon, infusing in this coin collection her cuteness and ability to inspire artists and designers from all over the world.”
