The Lion King to return to retail shelves

New toys and play-sets to be unveiled for The Lion Guard at Toy Fair.

The Lion King brand is returning to TV screens – with Disney launching a new series called The Lion Guard, complemented by a raft of consumer products.

The Lion Guard will premiere on Disney Junior in the UK in the spring. It will follow the launch of a special TV movie on Monday February 8 called The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar.

It will continue the story introduced 20 years ago in The Lion King – new characters will include Kion, the second born cub of Simba and Nala, who assumes the role of leader of the Lion Guard.

A full range of original products will include collectable figures, soft toys and play-sets from GP Flair’s Just Play division; soft toys from Posh Paws; plus publishing from Panini, Parragon, Phoenix International and Phidal.

Disney Store will also launch a new The Lion Guard product line in the spring including soft toys, apparel, stationery, figurine play-sets and more.

Mike Stagg, svp, gm integrated retail UK/Ireland & e-commerce EMEA commented: “For generations Disney has created magical stories and characters and The Lion Guard continues this legacy, tapping into the nostalgia parents have for the iconic The Lion King movie.

“We’re looking forward to the TV movie and series premiere on Disney Junior UK and the ongoing opportunities this property represents for licensing and retailer partners.”

In the US, the premier of The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar on Disney Channel ranked as the number one primetime cable TV telecast of 2015, among kids aged two to five.

Visitors to Toy Fair can check out The Lion Guard products from Posh Paws (stand D89) and GP Flair (stand B22).
