The Licensing Awards 2016: The Retail winners

Argos, Tesco, Asda and M&Co all crowned in the Retail category.

Four major retail names walked away victorious in last night’s Licensing Awards’ retailer award categories.

It was massive night for Tesco, with the team collecting three of the sought after retail accolades.

The retailer picked up Best Kids Retailer of Licensed Products (sponsored by DreamWorks), Best Retailer of Adult Licensed Products (sponsored by WBCP) and the Top Retailer award (sponsored by Mattel).

Rachel Wakley, head of licensing at Tesco, told The Source: “I’m surprised and delighted in equal measure.”

Argos won the Best Preschool Retailer of Licensed Products (sponsored by eOne). The award was collected by Emma Bennett, licensing manager and Paul Kinge, buying manager toys.

Paul commented: “We’re delighted to be recognised by the industry, especially as there was so much competition in the category.”

The Radar Award (sponsored by DHX Brands) was won by M&Co, with head of buying Julia Redman collecting the accolade with her team.

“We were truly thrilled to win the Radar Award – it feels really good to know that we have been recognised by our peers and others around the industry for the work we have been doing!” commented a delighted Julia.

Best Licensed Retail Execution (sponsored by TLP) was won by Asda and GIG Retail for the Minions Summer Takeover.

“We’re simply thrilled to have won this award,” said Gal Shivtiel, md of GIG Retail. “It’s a wonderful recognition for the hard work that’s gone into growing our agency and celebrates the impact that our management of licensing partnerships has with a large scale retailer.”

Sarah Crennell, head of retail and licensed partnerships at GIG Retail, added: “It is amazing to work with such a great retailer as Asda and we really think we have set the benchmark with this initiative.”

Retailers Sainsbury’s, Mothercare and Tesco were also feted in the Awards in the product award categories through collaborations with licensees.
