We take a closer look at the 11 big winners in the Product category.
The winners of the 11 product categories at the Licensing Awards covered a variety of big names – from Spin Master to Dr Martens.
The first award in the category was Best Licensed Toy or Game Range (sponsored by BBC Worldwide). Spin Master’s PAW Patrol range was victorious, with sales director Jacqueline Taylor-Foo and brand manager Charlotte Jones collecting the award.
“Wow, this is just amazing! We are so proud and pleased,” Jacqueline commented.
Best Licensed Dress-up or Partyware Range (sponsored by Disney) was won by Rubie’s Masquerade for its DC Super Heroes range for Sainsbury’s. Tracey Devine, head of licensing and marketing at Rubie’s collected the award with John Carolan, head of buying childrenswear and menswear at Sainbury’s.
Best Licensed Preschool Apparel Range (sponsored by Nickelodeon) was awarded to Star Wars Babywear for Tesco from Paul Dennicci.
Andrew Farrow, md of Paul Dennicci, told The Source: “This is testament to the hard work that the team has done. We want to be the number one licensee for babywear really.”
Best Licensed Children’s Apparel Range (sponsored by Saban Brands) went to DC Superheroes Swimwear for Sainsbury’s from Aykroyd & Sons.
“I am totally shocked,” said David Aykroyd, director of Aykroyd & Sons, “I did not expect this at all. I am very very proud.”
Moving on to Best Licensed Adult Apparel Range (sponsored by 20th Century Fox), and the Adventure Time Boots range from Dr Martens was victorious.
Darren McKoy, global category manager at Airwair International Ltd, commented: “We are so honoured and happy to be involved with the Cartoon Network team.”
Best Licensed Written, Listening or Learning Range (sponsored by Carte Blanche) went to Winnie the Pooh 90th anniversary books from Egmont.
Nicole Pearson, creative director at Egmont Publishing, said: “We’re particularly delighted to win this year as it is the 90th anniversary of Winnie the Pooh.”
Star Wars Stamp Range from Royal Mail was victorious in the Best Licensed Paper Products or Stationery Range (sponsored by ITV).
Stewart Tyson, head of intellectual property & licensing at Royal Mail, enthused to The Source: “I have been at Royal Mail for 20 years and this is the best moment. I am speechless, and I usually have a word for everything.”
Best Licensed Giftware Range (sponsored by Universal) was won by The Simpsons x Skinnydip Krusty the Clown Range from Skinnydip.
James Gold, co-founder of Skinnydip, said: “The company has only been going for five years, so to come here and win this is fantastic. I am over the moon. It means the world.”
Best Licensed Home Décor, Tableware or Housewares Range (sponsored by Spring Fair) was awarded to Peter Rabbit 150 Nursery Range for Mothercare from Suncrest Trading.
Rachael Bradshaw, md of Suncrest Trading – who collected the award with Mothercare merchandiser Kirsti Lynch – commented: “Mothercare have been so cool to work with on this collaboration; it’s been such a smooth project.”
Best Licensed Food or Drink Range (sponsored by Rainbow Productions) was awarded to Minions Banana Tic Tacs from Ferrero, with Fiona Hartley, Tic Tac senior brand manager at Ferrero UK & Ireland accepting the accolade.
And last, but by no means least, The Innovation Award (sponsored by Cartoon Network) went to Star Wars Bluetooth Speakers from AC Worldwide.
Karl Grimsey, one of the founders of AC Worldwide, told The Source he was “blown away” by the win.
