TLC co-founder and joint managing director, Angela Farrugia is honoured with special award.
A clearly moved Angela Farrugia – co-founder and joint managing director of TLC – became the first recipient of The Brand Licensing Ambassador of the Year accolade at the B&LLAs yesterday (Wednesday April 20).
The award honoured Angela’s personal contribution to the evolution of the brand licensing sector.
Angela has been involved in licensing for three decades and, while her initial focus was on entertainment brands, she spotted the potential of brand licensing before almost anyone else.
Through a combination of vision, tenacity, passion and sheer determination, TLC – the company Angela co-founded in 1996 – has gone on to great heights, spawning 14 offices around the world, representing many leading fashion, auto, food and beverage and lifestyle brands, and generating an incredible $8.4 billion in retail sales in the last year alone.
Accepting the award, an emotional Angela said: “I am so proud to carry this award home.
“Thank you to Max Publishing for hosting such a fantastic event – this business is so inspiring for all of us. One of the things I’ve looked for in people whenever we’ve hired, and I have to say there are a lot of TLC-ers in this room who remain very connected to us – I always look for that motivation, but more powerful is inspiration.
“This industry has no limits – it fills me with joy to go to work in the morning.”
Angela continued: “I have to thank Melvin, who has been my work husband for 28 years, and to all at TLC (current and ex) and to you, the industry.”
