Tesco names Fantastic Beasts, L.O.L. as Xmas picks

Licences are both among retailer’s top toy picks for the festive season.

Tesco has named its top toy picks for this Christmas, with the Fantastic Beasts and L.O.L. Surprise brands making an appearance.

The retailer has been enjoying success with L.O.L. Surprise and has an exclusive product for Christmas, Bling Surprise, which features seven toys: each layer unveils a hint of which ‘blinged out’ doll fans will receive.

Meanwhile, the LEGO Fantastic Beasts: Newts Case of Magical Creatures builds as a suitcase but opens up to reveal the secret world of Newt Scamander and his magical creatures. The set also features four mini figures, along with five mythical creatures from the film.

Other licensed names making an appearance in the listing – in which more than half the toys are priced under £15 – is the Imaginext DC Super Friends Batman Ooze Pit, which features Batman and Ra’s al Ghul figures; new Moose Toys collectable, Treasure X; and Fingerlings Panda, which is exclusive to Tesco.

“Over the last few years we’ve seen a lot of expensive hi-tec toys dominate the Christmas market,” said John Hext, toy category manager at Tesco. “This year, based on toy-buying trends throughout the year, our experts predict there will be a return to basics with more all family-inclusive games creating play value and helping to provide lots of fun.

“In the list there are toys for all budgets but with more than half of them priced at £15 or under there are plenty that can also serve as stocking fillers.”
