Tesco eyes up licensed Christmas successes

Harry Potter, Friends, Barbie, Frozen and personalisation highlighted as key brands and trends.

Key buyers from Tesco have earmarked some of the brands and trends which will be a hit with consumers during the run up to this Christmas.

Speaking to Licensing Source Book at the judging for the product categories of The Licensing Awards, the retailer’s Chantal Pearce, Kasha Tarasiuk and Stephanie Burrows highlighted brands across a range of demographics.

“The big hitters for the last part of the year will be Frozen, Harry Potter and Toy Story,” commented Chantal, head of buying for seasonal events at Tesco (pictured above). “Personalisation will continue to be a strong trend across many brands as it builds on that relationship with the consumer.

“Sustainability will grow in importance, be that through the selection of materials used, such as BCI cotton, recycled glass and product selection, such as re-usable drinking bottles and bags.”

Tesco's Kasha and Stephanie believe Harry Potter will remain strong.

Meanwhile, Kasha Tarasiuk, buying manager for Christmas, everyday and seasonal gifting for Tesco, and Stephanie Burrows, assistant buyer seasonal gifting for Tesco, also have confidence in the boy wizard.

“We feel that Harry Potter will continue to remain strong for the rest of the year. Nostalgia has such a pull, which is why Friends is doing so well and why Barbie will remain strong.”
