Suited Brands scores with Harlem Globetrotters

Brand set to launch into high street fashion with other categories also being reviewed.

Suited Brands has scored its own slam dunk – signing up to develop the licensing programme around the Harlem Globetrotters.

The ‘exhibition’ basketball team is celebrating 90 years of its special combination of athleticism, theatre and comedy.

A new logo and style guide have been released for the first time in 25 years, and Suited Brands believes that there is a major trend in the UK for American brands with heritage.

“They [the Globetrotters] are one of the few truly globally-recognised brands, you can go anywhere in the world, say ‘Globetrotters,’ and it will put a smile on people’s faces, young and old,” said Jake Brocklehurst, md of Suited Brands.

“We have recently signed two of the UK’s top apparel manufacturers – Fashion UK and Blackstone Design – to launch the brand into the fashion high street and are currently reviewing additional categories.”

Suited Brands is now reviewing partners to launch into sporting accessories, stationery and gifting.

Karl Mawhinney, vp global corporate partnership at Harlem Globetrotters International, added: “The Globetrotters are innovators and trendsetters – always looking forward – and are a team of ‘firsts’.

“We are thrilled to partner with Suited Brands as our exclusive UK agent to expand the brand into new categories with compelling products.

“We’ve recently celebrated our 90th anniversary and continue to deliver annual record breaking attendance at all of our events worldwide. Now is an ideal time for the Globetrotters to grow our presence across the Atlantic, and we are confident Suited Brands will only build on this success through exciting brand extensions.”
