New animated version of Bob will star in 20 short episodes to air from October this year.
Following on from the success of the book and film, Streetcat Bob is due to debut as an animated character on Sky Kids later this year.
The animated version of Bob – a ginger stray credited with turning round the life of a homeless, recovering addict, James Bowen – will feature in an initial run of 20 short episodes commissioned by Lucy Murphy, head of kids content at Sky, launching on Sky Kids from October.
The series will be based on a successful run of five shorts which launched online last year. It will be made by King Rollo Films and will see Bob and his animal friends – a pair of squirrels, a young fox, a hedgehog, bee and a pigeon – as they share life in Bowen Park.
“We’re incredibly excited to bring Bob to a new generation of TV viewers,” said Adam Rolston of Shooting Script Films, the series’ producer. “The series will be charming, imaginative and a lot of fun but will also embody many of the important messages of the Bob books, teaching children the importance of friendship, kindness and helping others.”
Brands with Influence – which is managing the global licensed merchandise rights for Streetcat Bob – is currently in discussions with a number of licensees looking to develop merchandise.
Bob has been the subject of a series of books, selling in excess of seven million copies worldwide. The movie – which was based on the first book in the series – was released in 2017 with a Royal Premiere attended by the Duchess of Cambridge.
