Starlight Express rolls into new collaboration with Double Threat Skates

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group has unveiled a new collaboration with independent roller skate emporium, Double Threat Skates, celebrating the iconic Starlight Express.

Double Threat Skates already produces its own skate apparel range, but this is the first time the emporium has worked on a design collaboration.

It has created exclusive designs inspired by characters from the show which will run across two iconic and distinct capsule collections rooted in retro appeal, but with a modern twist.

One collection will be available at the Troubadour Theatre, Wembley, and online at www.starlightexpresslondon.com and the other will be available exclusively at the Double Threat Skates store in London and on online at www.doublethreatskates.co.uk.

Both collections include hoodies, t-shirts and tote bags. Double Threat Skates will hand-print the collection on-site in small batches to ensure each item will look and feel unique.

Double Threat Skates was founded by Kitty and Gaz in 2013 in Kings Cross as the ultimate destination for bespoke customised skates for all skate disciplines. The store draws on their combined 27 years of high-level roller derby experience to offer skaters expert advice and support.

This is not the first time Double Threat Skates has linked up with Rusty and the gang. Earlier in the year, it provided skate knowledge and technical expertise to the London production of Starlight Express.

In addition to the collaboration with Double Threat Skates, the new Starlight Express album was released in November 2024 and entered the UK Compilations Album chart at number four. To date it has been streamed over three million times globally bringing the total streams of the entire Starlight Express catalogue to over 40 million.

In recent weeks the new version of the song Pumping Iron (performed by Al Knott as Greaseball) from Starlight Express has generated over 11 million views on TikTok.

“Working with Starlight Express has been an absolute pleasure and the experience of a lifetime,” commented Kitty and Gaz, founders of Double Threat Skates.

Libby Grant, chief commercial officer at The Really Useful Group, continued: “It’s been great to work with Double Threat Skates on these brilliant new designs that feel so relevant and authentic to the show which made its triumphant return to London this summer. This collaboration is part of our broader drive to take Andrew Lloyd Webber Musicals into fresh and exciting new categories which will help us engage more deeply with new and existing fans.”
