Spotify confirms League of Legends sponsorship

Company secures ‘first of its kind’ partnership with Riot Games for esports global events.

Spotify has secured a new partnership with Riot Games which will see it become the official audio streaming partner for a host of esports global events for the League of Legends brand.

The multi-year deal sees Spotify join up with Riot for the LoL Esports World Championship, the Mid-Season Invitational and the All-Star Event, with the partnership kicking off ahead of the World Championship on September 25, reported Sportindustry.biz.

In addition, Spotify will create curated playlists inspired by the LoL community, as well as creating a series of original podcasts aiming to bring a unique insight into the LoL World Championship.

“Our partnership with Riot Games will create a first-of-its-kind audio universe for the millions of Spotify and League of Legends fans across the globe,” said June Sauvaget, global head of consumer and product marketing at Spotify. “As the exclusive – and first-ever – global audio service partner for League of Legends Esports, we plan to create the best possible audio streaming experience for our users, making discovering both music and podcasts easier than ever before.”

Naz Aletaha, head of global esports partnerships at Riot Games, added: “Music and story-telling have become an intrinsic part of our sport and game, so we are excited to partner with Spotify to provide our fans with another platform where they can enjoy a new manifestation of League of Legends esports.”
