SpongeBob SquarePants is bringing his home in a pineapple under the sea to Roblox.
Metaverse game developer and strategist, Gamefam has teamed up with Paramount Games Studio for the launch of SpongeBob Simulator, the first official Roblox game built wholly around the nautical, nonsensical universe of Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants.
Launching Friday 26 January 26, SpongeBob Simulator is a collecting game where players can go on an adventure with their friends around the world of Bikini Bottom. Players can unlock and collect special ‘mini buddies’ modelled after the quintessential supporting cast of the series including snails, jellyfish and mini clone versions of the characters.
The experience will invite the more than 70 million daily users on Roblox to transform into SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, Sandy Cheeks and other characters from the franchise.
“Deepening the connection with fans of our hit franchises through interactive and immersive experiences is a key facet of our long-term gaming strategy,” commented Doug Rosen, sip games and emerging media at Paramount. “We’re excited to let fans step into Bikini Bottom and participate in the universe in a completely new way, and Gamefam’s expertise in creating and managing high quality and engaging Roblox worlds makes them the ideal partner for us to expand into new horizons.”
Ricardo Briceno, chief business officer at Gamefam, continued: “Gamefam’s ultimate goal is to bring joy to players, and through this amazing partnership with the Paramount team, we turned one of the most beloved animated franchises into one of the most visually stunning games ever released on Roblox. Millions of existing and new SpongeBob SquarePants fans will be able to actively immerse themselves in Bikini Bottom like never before.”
Gamefam and Paramount have previously worked together on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Battle Tycoon game on Roblox, which has drawn 19 million players since its launch in August 2023.
