SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change expands ahead of World Oceans Day

In time for World Oceans Day, Paramount Consumer Products and Nickelodeon are celebrating and expanding the efforts of SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change – a global ocean conservation and sustainability initiative – with a new collaboration with Ocean Conservancy, a global nonprofit that works to protect the ocean from today’s greatest challenges.

Ocean Conservancy will collaborate with Operation Sea Change on a series of educational resources that will be available on the initiative’s global digital hub later this year.

In addition, Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore has unveiled a SpongeBob SquarePants branded trash wheel, aiming to leverage the reach of the undersea dweller to help raise awareness about ocean plastic pollution and how we can all contribute to stopping it.

“From the beginning, SpongeBob SquarePants’ connection to the sea has been at the core of this beloved series and we could not be more excited to see the impact our efforts are already having through Operation Sea Change,” commented Veronica Hart, evp global franchise planning at Paramount Consumer Products & Experiences. “We are also thrilled to be able to expand our initiative’s reach through our collaboration with Ocean Conservancy to create educational resources, and team up with Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore to use the power of our globally beloved IP to amplify the message that we can all play a role in reducing plastic pollution.

“We know this is just the beginning and as we celebrate World Oceans Day today, we are looking ahead to the partnerships and initiatives that will help preserve our oceans for future generations.”

Launched in September 2022, SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change aims to help remove and divert five million pounds of ocean plastic by 2027 by funding clean-up projects.

Paramount Consumer Products is also working with SpongeBob SquarePants consumer products partners to drive more sustainable practices and reduce single-use plastic in products, and is curating partnerships with new brands to create innovative product lines.

Future plans for SpongeBob SquarePants: Operation Sea Change include new partnerships and products, additional short-form content that will help educate fans on the ocean plastic crisis, plus on-the-ground clean-ups and activations that will allow fans to get involved.
