Smiffys reveals most popular licensed WBD costumes

Roald Dahl, Where’s Wally? and David Walliams characters lead the charge for licensee.

Costume and party company Smiffys has revealed the most popular licensed World Book Day costumes for the 2020 season, with Roald Dahl, Where’s Wally? and David Walliams leading the charge.

“World Book Day is our biggest season second to Halloween and as a firm fixture in the school calendar it’s one of the largest children’s events in the UK,” said director Dominique Peckett. “Its popularity is growing throughout nurseries nationwide too and as schools focus on the literacy aspect of the event, dress-up plays an increasingly important role in making reading fun for preschoolers and school age kids alike.”

“Our licensed costumes are at the forefront of book day sales, this has been the biggest growth area for 2020,” she continued. “The most popular licences included the much-loved Roald Dahl, Where’s Wally and David Walliams, followed by well-known characters such as Shrek, Shaun the Sheep and Peter Rabbit.”

Smiffys also launched an extensive range of toddler costumes last year, many of which have been bestsellers for the 2020 celebrations. CBeebies’ Bing, Roald Dahl’s Mr Fox and Postman Pat all led the way for the younger age groups.

“Costume brings characters to life and encourages development through imaginative play,” added Dominique. “We love that it is designed to inspire and excite the imagination.”
