Smiffys makes the most of World Book Day opportunities

Dress-up licensee has new designs including The Tiger Who Came To Tea and Thomas & Friends.

With just two days to go before the big day itself, Smiffys has made the most of its new 2020 Book Day collection, which contains over 150 products.

Taking place on Thursday March 5, the annual literary celebration sees children and teachers across the UK dressing up to pay tribute to their favourite book characters.

Bringing literacy to life is a key theme for Smiffys and aligns with a raft of new designs for 2020, with the introduction of new licences to the portfolio including The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Mog the Forgetful Cat, Fun with Spot and Thomas and Friends.

“Baby dress-up is set to be a hot trend for 2020,” commented trade marketing manager, Sharon Poulter. “This has been aided in part by the prominence of World Book Day moving into nurseries and preschools across the UK.

“We expect our new officially licensed baby and toddler collections to be popular as the preschool dress-up market continues to expand. The baby designs are just adorable.”

Other new baby lines which are expected to do well for the 2020 Book Week season include the officially licensed Where’s Wally? and Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka costumes – both are range extensions of the already popular adult costumes.

Everyday costumes are, of course, equally important and often sell well as they allow parents to get creative in a number of different ways.

“These costumes are great for creating all round fun with something for everyone,” says Sharon. “They mean that little one’s imagination can run wild as they are transported to the depths of ocean or deep into times gone by.”
