Nautical-themed limited edition capsule collection has been inspired by Brutus.
As part of Popeye’s 90th anniversary year, King Features has teamed with clothing line Scotch & Soda for a new capsule collection featuring Popeye’s nemesis, Brutus.
The collection – called The Boathouse – is nautical-themed and sees Brutus (as he’s known in Scotch & Soda’s home of Amsterdam) take centre stage across a variety of product.
The Boathouse features apparel for men, women and children and includes denims, Hawaiian shirts, overalls and varsity-inspired jackets, as well as sweats and hoodies.
The palette features monochromes and black and white washes with pop accents of lifeguard red.
Also included are a variety of accessories such as hats, caps, bags, belts, scarves, phone cases and laptop sleeves.
“Scotch & Soda has a proven record in bringing innovative products to market, and when they had the original idea to create a nautical collection around Brutus, we knew it would be a hit with fans,” said Carla Silva, vp and gm, global head of licensing at King Features. “Their impassioned commitment to developing a unique and authentic vintage look for Brutus was inspiring and is apparent in every design.”
Marlou van Engelen, creative director at Scotch & Soda, added: “We found this brilliant, vintage Brutus garment on our travels and couldn’t resist the magnetism of this muscly character. Brutus has this powerful, larger-than-life personality.”
