Sanrio partners with Forbidden Planet

Retailer is launching a new range of apparel and accessories for Gudetama and Aggretsuko.

Sanrio is partnering with pop culture retailer Forbidden Planet for a new collection of apparel and accessories for its Gudetama and Aggretsuko brands.

Gudetama launches in time for Easter, with planned activity in the Forbidden Planet London Megastore on Good Friday – aptly renamed Gude Friday. Aggretsuko, meanwhile, will arrive in time for the global launch of its second season on Netflix later in 2019.

The product range will include t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, tea towels, magnets and travel pass holders.

“We are really excited about the partnership with Forbidden Planet which is a great destination for these Sanrio brands,” said Sabrina Segalov, licensing manager at Sanrio. “Gude-Friday will even see our lazy egg get out of bed and make an appearance for the launch at the flagship store.

“Later in the year the rockstar of the Kawaii world, Aggretsuko will launch with the UK’s first range of products – we can’t wait to see this in-store.”

Anthony Garnon, licensing and special projects manager at Forbidden Planet, added: “I must resist the egg puns! This is an amazing opportunity to grow our pop culture offering, with two increasingly popular Sanrio properties. Our customers love both already, so it’s great to be able to offer them more, through new designs and categories.

“Post-launch we have themed Gudetama ranges for Halloween and Christmas 2019, and further first-to-market Aggretsuko designs.”
