Sainsbury’s adds Russell Athletic to roster

Retailer adds 72 skus for men and women from athleisure brand to Tu clothing website.

Sainsbury’s has bolstered its branded offer on its Tu clothing website, welcoming US sportswear brand Russell Athletic.

The retailer began selling 72 skus for men and women – both clothing and accessories – earlier this week, according to Retail Week.

The introduction of the Russell Athletic range builds on the success which Sainsbury’s has enjoyed with heritage sportswear brand Admiral – the grocer expanded the partnership last October to include a capsule range of performance wear.

It also marks the first time that female shoppers can buy branded clothing from Sainsbury’s.

The addition of Russell Athletic means that Sainsbury’s also dips its toe into the burgeoning athleisure market, which is worth £7 billion in the UK according to Morgan Stanley research.

Sainsbury’s said the move was part of an ongoing strategy to offer consumers choice across different channels.
