Royal Museums Greenwich begins licensing drive with new agency appointment

Royal Museums Greenwich has appointed Licensing Link Europe as its first ever licensing and merchandising representative in the UK.

The new strategic partnership will aim to extend RMG’s rich cultural heritage and historical significance to new audiences.

RMG encompasses four cultural institutions: the National Maritime Museum, Queen’s House, Royal Observatory and the Cutty Sark.

Renowned for its contributions to maritime and space exploration, architectural innovation and art, the institution also houses the world’s most extensive naval collection and welcomes over 2.2 million visitors annually. The Prime Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory and the National Maritime Museum’s exhibits further reinforce RMG’s stature as a global cultural and historical preservation leader.

2025 is a landmark year for RMG, with many significant events on the horizon. In March, the National Maritime Museum will unveil Pirates, an important exhibition tracing the evolution of pirate depictions through history. The Royal Observatory will also celebrate its 350th anniversary with commemorative events highlighting its pivotal role in scientific advancements. Established in 1675 by Charles II to solve the critical problem of determining longitude at sea, the Observatory has since become synonymous with Greenwich Mean Time. In addition, the Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibition will return in September, celebrating the finest achievements in astrophotography from around the globe.

Licensing Link Europe will spearhead developing licensing and merchandising initiatives across various product categories. To complement RMG’s upcoming events and milestones, it will initially focus on timekeeping, social expression, home décor, apparel and collectables.

“We’re thrilled to be appointed as RMG’s licensing representative and to collaborate with their team,” commented Chris Taday and Ian Wickham, co-founders of Licensing Link Europe. “The breadth of their assets presents an extraordinary opportunity to create unique and engaging merchandise ranges. With the 350th anniversary of the Royal Observatory on the horizon, the timing couldn’t be better for launching this exciting partnership.”

Karen Eden-Tuxford, head of commerce and visitor experience at Royal Museums Greenwich, added: “We are pleased to be taking this next step in developing our licensing programme and are delighted to be working with Licensing Link. Together with Chris and Ian, we look forward to sharing our collection with new audiences and making the most of the exciting opportunities the next few years present.”
