Rovio closes its London studio

Angry Birds maker to focus on studios in Finland and Sweden.

Rovio has closed its London studio, with the Angry Birds maker also warning profits are likely to fall.

The company is looking to concentrate on its studios in Finland and Sweden. It had employed seven games developers in London, which was opened in 2017.

In addition, Wilhelm Taht, Rovio’s head of games, has resigned.

On February 22, Rovio issued a profit warning, saying that its brand licensing revenues could decline 40% this year. Tough competition and higher marketing costs were attributed to the poor outlook.

It said consumer products revenues are expected to be at similar level as in 2017. The focus of brand licensing in 2018 is on preparing the licensed portfolio for 2019 and the Angry Birds movie sequel.

The original movie earned some $350 million at the box office.
