Magic Light Pictures’ Academy Award-nominated animation Room on the Broom is enjoying a spooktacularly successful Halloween, as it stakes a claim to become the leading title for preschoolers during the creepy season.
The 30-minute animated special – which features the voices of a raft of international acting talent including Gillian Anderson, Simon Pegg and Sally Hawkins – tells the story of a kindly witch who invites a surprising collection of animals to join her on her broom.
This week US reviewing website Reviewed.com named it as its number one Halloween film, saying “Short and sweet, this story is more about magical friendship than anything too spooky”. The story has since been widely followed up in the British media, with several titles reporting on the Top 20 most kid-friendly Halloween titles.
In addition, the book on which the film is based, written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, is riding high again this year. Reaching the number one spot in the US picture book charts and number three overall in the USA Today best-selling books for adults and children.
“It’s fantastic to see Room on the Broom rising so high during Halloween,” said Daryl Shute, brand director at Magic Light Pictures. “We are thrilled that this perennial kids favourite with its themes of kindness and compassion is fast becoming a firm flying favourite with preschoolers on both sides of the pond.”
