Room on the Broom flying high as Halloween approaches

Magic Light Pictures is looking forward to a bumper Halloween with its Room on the Broom property, with 2021 also marking the 20th anniversary of the publication of the book.

The team has been busy with a raft of initiatives which has included a celebration with Chessington World of Adventures Resort. A six-week on park celebration has included a special trail, character meet and greats and film screenings among other activity.

In addition, there has been Room on the Broom activity sheets with Forestry England throughout the autumn, while a special trail has been running at Trentham Hall during October.

When it comes to consumer products, tonies is running a competition with its Room on the Broom character to win a stay in a Chessington hotel bedroom, while there is also a new range of merchandise on gruffaloshop.com to celebrate the anniversary. Designed in-house by Bridie Gibbs, product development executive at Magic Light Pictures (pictured inset), the range includes an apron, mug, t-shirt, tote bag and coaster.

Dress-up has been available in Sainsbury’s since mid-October; Wow Stuff has toys in Amazon and Smyths; Aurora has plush; while Next is enjoying success with Room on the Broom wellies, slippers and pyjamas.

“In the 20th anniversary year of the book’s first publication Room on the Broom continues to go from strength to strength,” commented Bridie. “We are delighted that this Halloween young children will be able to thrill in a series of spooktacular live events across the country and continue the fun at home with the exciting product lines available at retail.

“We are also really happy to share the new Room on the Broom capsule range that I designed in-house, with a fresh new colour palette, for the Gruffalo online shop.”

In addition, the property is also performing well over in the US, with the book continuing to climb the charts in the run up to Halloween. There is also an in-store promotion happening with Target.
