The Star Wars spin-off has taken £50.7 million at the box office.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has broken records to become the biggest film of 2016 in the UK and Ireland – after just 17 days on release.

The movie has taken £50.7 million at the box office, overtaking the previous holder – Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – in the final hours of the year.

2016 was yet another strong year for The Walt Disney Studios at the UK and Irish box office.

Rogue One, The Jungle Book and Finding Dory each took over £40 million.

With the addition of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Captain America: Civil War, Disney has released five of the top ten grossing films and, including Zootropolis and Doctor Strange, seven films in 2016 have taken over £20 million.
