James and the Giant Weekend is part of celebrations around the author’s very first novel for children.
The Roald Dahl Story Company is joining forces with London’s Natural History Museum for James and the Giant Weekend – a special family festival taking place on September 8-9.
The event is part of the celebrations surrounding James and the Giant Peach – the author’s first novel for children and the focus of this year’s Roald Dahl Day.
The Natural History Museum will stage numerous activities and events for families to explore the natural world, as celebrated in the story.
The Museum’s expert bug detectives will be uncovering minibeasts in the Wildlife Garden, visitors will be able to meet the Museum scientists, see real specimens, take part in the ‘What Bug Am I?’ quiz and create wearable antennae.
There will also be a ‘Whizzbanging Words’ session, revealing Roald’s original workings for the story. Three Giant Musical Bugs (pictured) will also be on hand to provide entertainment.
The event is part of a series of initiatives highlighting the magic of James.
These include the annual ‘Virtually Live’ Roald Dahl Day Show, created by Puffin Books; a new ‘fuzzy’ edition of James and the Giant Peach, plus a new audiobook edition and James’ Giant Bug Book; Roald Dahl Day activity and dress-up opportunities; plus activity with Rococo Chocolate around its James and the Giant Peach bar to name just a few.
