“We are grateful for the hard work of everybody at Toys R Us during this extremely difficult and challenging time.”
The final 75 Toys R Us stores still trading in the UK will all be closed by Tuesday April 24, the joint administrators for the retailer have confirmed today.
The final closures will affect over 2,000 jobs, with Moorfields acting to ensure employees receive the support they need for redundancy and other compensatory payments.
The stores – in locations including Bedford, Harlow, Milton Keynes, Stevenage, Thurrock and Northampton – will continue to trade as normal up until their closing dates, which will take place between April 19-24.
The nationwide stock discounting programme will be extended further, with discounts of up to 70% available throughout the stores.
“We are grateful for the hard work of everybody at Toys R Us during this extremely difficult and challenging time,” said Simon Thomas, joint administrator at Moorfields.
“The stores across the county will be open as usual until the last day of trading and we would encourage shoppers to make the most of the great deals on offer. Extended discounts of up to 70% are in place from today and offers are available on some of our best-known brands.”
Reports elsewhere have also suggested that Toys R Us had received bids of over $1 billion for a majority stake in its Asia business.
