Pokémon growth continues with Sword & Shield expansion

Darkness Ablaze expansion due to arrive globally on August 14, 2020.

The Pokémon Company International has unveiled the newest expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Sword & Shield – Darkness Ablaze, arriving around the world on August 14, 2020.

The expansion introduces new collectable cards including Charizard VMAX, with the fan favourite character making its Gigantamax form debut in the TCG, mirroring its appearance in the Sword and Shield video games.

In addition, Trainers will be able to pull more Pokémon from the Galar region as Pokémon VMAX.

The full expansion will include seven Pokémon VMAX, 14 powerful Pokémon V plus nine full-art Pokémon V, 17 Trainer cards and four full-art Supporter cards, plus three new Special Energy cards.

Fans who would like to play with cards from the expansion before launch can also pick up a Sword & Shield Darkness Ablaze Build & Battle Box from August 1. Each box will contain four booster packs, a 23-card Evolution pack featuring key cards from current and prior sets and a deck-building tip sheet.
