Peter Rabbit hops into the Myer Christmas windows

Now in its 66th season, Myer is looking to bring some magic to Melbourne by partnering with Frederick Warne & Co to bring Beatrix Potter’s The Tale of Peter Rabbit to life in the Myer Christmas Windows 2021.

The window scene – which was unveiled on 14 November at the flagship Bourke Street store – has been in preparation for over 12 months.

The six-window storyboard aims to encapsulate the English countryside scenery as depicted in Beatrix Potter’s illustrations.

There are 22 main characters featured including 19 rabbits, Mr McGregor, a cat, numerous birds, mice, goldfish, ducks and insects; over 100 individual animated movements; more than 3,000 individual leaves, vegetable and flower petals; plus 240 metres of special malleable fabric.

“Myer’s iconic Christmas windows are loved by the Australian community, with generations of parents and children making the annual trip into the city to experience the excitement, wonder and joy that they bring,” commented Tony Sutton, Myer’s director of stores. “We are excited to mark the end of a difficult 24 months with the pure magic and nostalgia of The World of Peter Rabbit.

“Much-loved for generations, this marks a brand-new adventure for the mischievous bunny and we are thrilled that families can revisit the nostalgic world of Beatrix Potter this Christmas through Myer’s iconic Christmas Windows.”

Thomas Merrington, creative director at Penguin Ventures, added: “As we head into the 120th birthday celebrations for Peter Rabbit in 2022, we are thrilled that Myer has chosen to feature The World of Peter Rabbit across their main Melbourne windows.

“The attention to detail on creating these iconic scenes is just incredible and I can’t wait to see how they all come together.”
