Company teams with estate of late pop icon to create Love Symbol #2.
Pantone has partnered with the estate of the late pop icon Prince to create a custom colour, honouring the singer and his love of purple.
Love Symbol #2 drew inspiration from Prince’s bespoke Yamaha piano – which he was planning to take on tour before his death in April 2016 – and has been launched alongside Prince’s signature glyph, The Love Symbol, which he changed his name to in 1993.
“The colour purple was synonymous with who Prince was and will always be,” said Troy Carter, entertainment advisor to Prince’s Estate. “This is an incredible way for his legacy to live on forever.”
Laurie Pressman, vp of the Pantone Color Institute, added: “We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one.’
“A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”
The Estate is now in conversation with various partners about collaboration on products that incorporate the custom colour.
