Retailer reports record searches with new game consoles dominating the most popular searches.
Black Friday was on track to be a record breaker for John Lewis, with the retailer reporting last week that it was expecting November 27 to be a record day for online orders sold via JohnLewis.com.
Based on predictions as of 9am on November 27, the retailer forecast that the day would be 35% ahead of its busiest day over the period last year.
It also said that people have shopped on average earlier than in previous years. There were record searches this year (+37%) with the busiest hour on the day Black Friday deals launched (November 20) as customers sought deals earlier.
New game consoles dominated the most popular searches, while the Give a Little Love Heart Shaped Red Umbrella which features in the new Christmas TV advert being the biggest selling fashion item.
There have been more than 18.7m product searches this year, with the new games consoles dominating the top five as expected, overtaking LEGO and Edgar the Dragon toys from last year’s John Lewis Christmas advert campaign.
Pampering products and LEGO Creator Expert Kits are also among this year’s big sellers.
Since its Black Friday offers started on November 20 up to 9am on November 27, John Lewis had shipped more than 2.5 million products.
