Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media is kicking off its their annual Marvel Super Hero Spectacular campaign with the largest share of merchandise, promotions and activations to date. The initiative will feature six weeks of product launches, retail promotions and activities – including a large-scale merchandising programme celebrating Captain America’s 75th anniversary and the launch of Captain America: Civil War on DVD and Blu-ray. Key retailers including Walmart, Target, Toys R Us, Amazon and Kohl’s will all be taking part, and for the first time the event will roll out globally and also reach mid-tier retail and specialty stores.

Justin Bieber is collaborating with Bravado on a new eight-piece collection for his Purpose world tour for Forever 21. The line – dubbed Forever 21 x Justin Bieber Purpose Tour Collection – will debut online and in-store one week later on August 29. Items will include oversize sleeveless t-shirts, short and long sleeve t-shirts, hoodies and sweatpants.

Santoro has welcomed Suncrest Trading on board as a new UK licensee for Gorjuss soft plush rag dolls. The first designs, aimed at younger girls, will launch in 2017.

The main cast for The LEGO Ninjago Movie has been announced. The film – which is scheduled to open in September 2017 – will star Dave Franco, Justin Therous, Zach Woods, Olivia Munn and Jackie Chan among others.

The Wish Factory is to create an exclusive line of merchandise for Star Trek. Having secured a licence with CBS Consumer Products, the company will create a plush and vinyl line of Kawaii Cubes for Star Trek: The Original Series. The range will include licensed collectables, stackable plush in multiple sizes and Kawaii Cubes Pozers and Nesterz.

US toy trade body – the Toy Industry Association – has confirmed the introduction of several new categories to its annual Toy of the Year Awards. These include Action Figure, Collectable, Construction, Doll, Rookie and Vehicle of the Year. In addition, the Property category has been renamed Licence of the Year.
