Licensing agent Born Licensing has teamed with Mattel for a new deal with comparison website moneysupermarket.com. A new ad campaign will premiere on Saturday March 25 featuring Skeletor from Masters of the Universe dancing to Irene Cara’s Fame. David Born, director of Born Licensing, said: “This is a brilliant example of how iconic characters can be used in a truly creative way. It perfectly plays on the character traits of Skeletor and He-Man that we all know and love.”
Metrostar is to manage the licensing activities for the Krispy Kreme doughnut brand in the UK. Four licensees are already on board – H&A is developing beauty ranges for Boots and other retailers; Kimm & Miller is creating food gifting; Gibsons is on board for puzzles; and BCI is creating women’s nightwear. The first products will be launched in autumn 2017. Brand Central is the master agent for the property.
Beauty and the Beast has enchanted UK cinema audiences, taking a total of £19.7 million over the three day opening weekend. This was the fifth highest grossing three day opening of all time and the highest for a PG movie.
Bulldog Licensing has signed up a host of partners for video games property Mass Effect: Andromeda. These include Trademark and Insert Coin (apparel); Rubber Road and Level Up Wear (apparel and accessories); Imagine8 (gift and stationery); and GB eye (wall décor, badges, travel card holders, mugs, key rings, stationery, glassware).
State Bicycle has teamed with 20th Century Fox Consumer Products for a limited edition The Simpsons collection. There are three designs in the range – Bart & Crossbone, Springfield Character Wrap and Color Block. Each has its own line of apparel to match which consists of a cycling bib, jersey, socks and cap. Limited edition jerseys of characters such as Otto Mann and Itchy & Scratchy will be offered later this year, as well as accessory collections inspired by Homer’s favourite snack, ranging from saddles to bottles and backpacks.
Coolabi has appointed Lizenzwerft as licensing agent for Poppy Cat in Germany, Austria and German speaking Switzerland.
Kimberly Wyatt is collaborating with Zakti Activewear on a new dance-inspired collection. The 42-piece range launches on April 25 in the UK, US and Canada, with the deal secured by Three60brands. Items include leggings, tops, jackets and accessories for women and girls.
Penguin Random House Children’s is to launch a new Peppa Pig picture book, in partnership with the new and exclusive TV episodes to be screened at eOne’s My First Cinema Experience initiative in April. Peppa Goes to London launches on April 6 and is a specially designed story focusing on Peppa and George’s first trip to the capital.
Smiley has expanded its retail presence in China, securing a new deal with casualwear apparel company Metersbonwe. The Smiley Happy Collection includes polos, contemporary sweatshirts with bold all over Smileys, plus men’s oversized tees and shirts. It also features a range of distressed Smiley denim.
