News extra: More licensing news from this week

Including BLE 2022 opening applications for its popular Retail Mentoring Programme and WildBrain CPLG creating a new Partnerships team.

Source rounds up more news from the licensing industry across the globe from the week.

Retailers are now being invited to apply for a delegate place on Brand Licensing Europe’s popular Retail Mentoring Programme for this year. The free to attend, CPD-accredited course is delivered through a series of seminars, workshops and 1-2-1 consultancy sessions between May and September 2022. It is now in its 12th year and boasts hundreds of alumni from the likes of Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Selfridges, Halfords, George @ Asda, Ann Summers, River Island, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Toymaster, The Entertainer and Morrisons. To take part, retailers are asked to sign up on the BLE website and fill out the form, or contact Keith Pashley for more information. The deadline for nomination is 22 April.

WildBrain CPLG has created a new Partnerships team to offer its multi-territory licensors a unified and strategic approach to drive growth and success through its global network. Led by Meike de Vaere – who has been promoted to the newly created position of vp partnerships and business development – the team will incorporate all operations from the previous Client Services unit (now also including business development) and will steer the strategic alignment of processes for partners to maximise opportunities for growth and efficiency. Within the new Partnerships structure, Brenda Draaisma has taken on the global role of director of key partnerships.

Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Random House Children’s Books are to launch Seuss Studios – a line of books for early readers by new and emerging authors and illustrators who will create original stories inspired by Ted Geisel’s (aka Dr. Seuss) unpublished sketches and illustrations.

McDonald’s partnered with World Book Day for the fourth year on 3 March – also marking the tenth anniversary of the Happy Readers scheme, which has seen 110 million books given away in the UK. On World Book Day, McDonald’s gave away free books in restaurants across the UK. Families could choose from Mr Silly: My Book About Me or There’s a Wolf in My Book by Tom Fletcher, as well as receiving a free book with every Happy Meal thanks to an existing book or toy promotion. In addition, there will also be a £1 token on every Happy Meal box until 15 March to help children continue their reading journey beyond World Book Day.
