New data reveals London’s most Googled video game characters

New research has revealed London’s favourite video game characters, with Pac-Man taking the top spot and Sonic the Hedgehog and Pikachu ranking second and third respectively.

The study – which was conducted by online casino guide, Casino Bonus – analysed Google search data from the past five years across London to determine which video game characters were the most searched for.

Pac-Man came out on top, receiving 27,100 average monthly searches in London. Sonic the Hedgehog was the second most popular character, with 22,200 searches every month, while Pikachu from the Pokémon franchise was third with 18,100 searches.

Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft and Kirby from the Kirby franchise made up the rest of the top five, with 9,900 and 8,100 average monthly searches respectively.

“A video game character can often become so popular that it can transcend its original franchise and game, taking on its own identity in popular culture, as we have seen with Pikachu and many others,” commented a spokesperson from Casino Bonus. “This data offers an interesting look into which gaming characters resonate the most with Brits.”
