New animated Avatar series on the way

Nickelodeon is continuing to develop the Avatar franchise, revealing a new animated series call Avatar: Seven Havens.

Set in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the original 26-episode, 2D-animated series centres around a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar.

“For two decades, the richly crafted world of Avatar: The Last Airbender has introduced audiences to a world of compelling characters and groundbreaking storylines, captivating fans globally,” commented Ramsey Naito, president, Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait to embark on the next chapter of this epic saga, with a new story set within the Avatar-verse, envisioned by the original creators, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko.”

The series is in production under the Avatar Studios banner from Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank.

Avatar: Seven Havens is comprised of Book 1 (13 half-hour episodes) and Book 2 (13 half-hour episodes). Additional news of the premiere date and casting will be announced at a later date.

The news comes as Nickelodeon celebrates the milestone 20th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender with all-new original digital content across the Paramount ecosystem, one-of-a-kind experiences, plus exclusive consumer products and games.

Highlights of the anniversary include new short-form originals coming to the Avatar: The Last Airbender YouTube channel including Avatar: Chibi Minis and new original content on the Avatar Legends channel.

There will also be location-based experiences such as Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert; an immersive fan experience at San Diego Comic-Con; and an attraction at Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America.

A new toy line is due to be launched by Jazwares; new publishing will include the launch of a new middle-grade chapter series, YA series, comic mini-series, new illustrated hardcover and adult activity book; a six-piece clothing collection at BoxLunch; a battlegrounds-style game on Roblox; and a new mobile game.
