National Trust to host first Children’s Book Festival

Special weekend at Wray Castle will celebrate Beatrix Potter’s 150th birthday.

To celebrate the 150th birthday of Beatrix Potter, the National Trust is hosting its first Children’s Book Festival Weekend at Wray Castle in the Lake District.

Taking place from March 4-6, the event will welcome a host of favourite authors and illustrators.

These will include Axel Scheffler, Philip Ardagh, Benji Davies, Sophy Henn and Steven Lenton.

There will be a range of bookable events – including a live narration of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, with the audience then being invited to brainstorm their own sequel.

Children will also be able to meet Peter Rabbit, as well as take part in a variety of activities on site at the castle. These will include craft-making, storytelling, a literary quiz around the castle, face painting and Squirrel Nutkin raft building with the National Trust rangers.

There will also be a chance to meet the authors and for children to have their books signed.
