National Geographic teams with Emma Watson

Partnership for International Women’s Day sees actress curate company’s Instagram feed.

Emma Watson, actor, activist and UN WOMEN Global Goodwill Ambassador, partnered with National Geographic to become the first guest editor of the brand’s Instagram account to mark International Women’s Day 2018 yesterday (Thursday, March 8).

Working with the editorial team at National Geographic, Emma curated the account, highlighting the work of eight National Geographic female photographers.

The photographers – from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Azerbaijan, Australia, the United States and the Philippines – cover a wide range of important and relevant topics including male guardianship and the longstanding ban on women driving in Saudi Arabia, the effects of displacement on women and girls running from Boko Haram in Nigeria and unequal pay in India for women day laborers in the brick industry.

The partnership is part of National Geographic’s continued effort to seek opportunistic moments to drive relevant brand conversations.

The company also published a variety of articles tied to International Women’s Day on its website.

Susan Goldberg, editorial director of National Geographic Partners and editor in chief of National Geographic magazine, said: “We are eager to use our storytelling platforms and our power as a global media brand to highlight women by calling attention to their work, their stories and their causes.”
