The National Galleries of Scotland has extended its licensing agreement with Japan-based LOGIC.
Based in Tokyo, LOGIC designs and sells apparel and accessories throughout Japan, China and Taiwan in stores such as United Arrows, Beams and Urban Research.
LOGIC has previously worked with a number of museums – including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the National Gallery in London – and began working with the National Gallery of Scotland in 2023.
It has developed ranges using the collection of Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian and Wassily Kandinsky held at the National Galleries of Scotland. Now in a further extension of its licensing agreement, LOGIC is developing ranges based on the work of Francis Caddell, who was inspired by the work of the Impressionists and the Scottish Colourists to create light-filled paintings of Edinburgh and Iona.
“We know the Japanese market well and the National Galleries of Scotland has some very nice paintings that work well for our design teams and sell well in Japanese and Asian outlets,” commented Hiroya Hayashi, design director at LOGIC. “We started with the work of Matisse and we are delighted now to be exploring the collections further.”
Shona Corner, licensing manager at the National Galleries of Scotland, added: “It has been a pleasure to work with LOGIC, Japan, with their high product quality, attention to detail and excellent design. We are looking forward to working on the new ranges and exploring our collections with them further.”
