Minions, Paddington, Star Wars, 007 and more star in new Love Cinema drive

Almost 60 classic and contemporary films featured in new 90-second clip aimed at enticing audiences back to cinemas.

A host of well known licensed movies are among almost 60 classic and contemporary films starring in a new campaign aimed at bringing audiences back after the pandemic shutdown.

A new 90-second video – commissioned by industry body, Cinema First – will be rolling out across Sky, Amazon, Facebook and Instagram among other outlets, driving home the message that ‘cinema is back’.

Just some of the licensing characters and brands appearing in the clip are the Minions, Paddington, Star Wars, Black Panther, Wonder Woman, Harry Potter, James Bond, The Wizard of Oz, Jurassic World, Coco, Top Gun: Maverick, Ghostbusters, Fast & the Furious and Peter Rabbit.

The Love Cinema campaign comes five months after all UK cinemas were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They began to resume business on July 4 and around 80% of all screens in the UK are expected to be open by August 26 – coinciding with the arrival of Tenet, the first major studio opening.

Iain Jacob, chair of Cinema First, told Screen Daily that a breadth of different film titles would be needed to attract audiences back to cinemas.

“With the lockdown easing, it took time for momentum to build and for the right number of cinemas to be open,” he said. “We hope this will ignite a fire and with the slate for the last quarter looking so good, it will hopefully pick up steam. There seems to be such a pent-up demand out there.”
