Metrostar adds Wussywat to portfolio

Agency to manage the licensing for Baby Cow Animations’ hit Cbeebies show.

Metrostar has bolstered its preschool property stable with the addition of Wussywat the Clumsy Cat.

The Baby Cow Animations show launched on CBeebies in June 2015 and has already reached over 50% of its preschool children target market.

Wussywat is also outperforming the slot average by almost 40% among the four to six age group, and by 23% among parents of children aged 0 to three.

The show has been downloaded from iPlayer over 1.18 million times.

Metrostar will be introducing toy companies to the brand at next week’s UK Toy Fair, and is also planning meetings with book publishers, back to school and apparel sectors in February.

“Wussywat’s early TV performance is truly exceptional; he is already outperforming some very well known and successful licensed properties,” said Metrostar’s Claire Potter.

“But it was Wussywat’s gentle charm and outstanding artwork which drew us to him. He is lovingly and beautifully conceived and we are fortunate to have him.”

Producer and co-creator of Wussywat, Simon Quinn, added: “We are really proud of our little show and think it’s wonderful that kids and their mums love it, too. We think Metrostar are the perfect fit for us to bring Wussywat to life outside of the TV series.”

Henry Normal, executive producer, continued: “We are very excited to be venturing into new ground as a company with such a great team at Metrostar. The ethos of Wussywat is to explore and be positive. We believe this is a great message for kids and, indeed, ourselves.”
