Mattel’s Jon Spalding confirmed as Licensing for Retail Day keynote

Mattel’s Hot Wheels and Barbie IPs will be the focus of the keynote session at Licensing for Retail Day next week.

Jon Spalding, head of UK consumer products at Mattel, will take charge of the session, called Licensed to Play – The IP That’s Revolutionising the Retail Industry.

He will be discussing how retailers can work with brands to tell a 360-degree story, inspire consumers and be continually relevant in a fast paced social media-fueled world.

“We’re so delighted to have Jon as keynote speaker for this event,” commented Laura Freedman-Dagg, head of retail at Informa Markets Global Licensing Group. “Our attendees are looking for inspiration for their future licensing programmes and I’ve no doubt that he will provide just that.”

Other sessions throughout the day include a look at emerging trends for 2024 and beyond; a consumer focus panel, looking at shifting consumer habits and how brand licensing can be part of the solution to many of the challenges that retail is facing; brands with purpose, a look at licensing as a force for good; a ‘Licensing Chose Me’ panel discussion featuring Will Stewart (founder and ceo at The Point.1888), Harris McQueen (sales and marketing director EME at Outerstuff), Ruth Golightly (divisional sales and design director at Blues Clothing) and Gemma Dunn (director, brand partnerships and licensing (McDonald’s Happy Meal) at tms); plus a look at how we will shop in 10 years among others.

There will also be an industry panel – featuring Licensing International’s Steve Manners; Danielle Tanton, vp Europe and Middle East Division, Themed Entertainment Association; Dave Tovey, avp brand management, head of digital media at Beanstalk; and Libby Grant, brand business development specialist – to end the day, followed by networking.
