Mattel set to soar with Top Gun: Maverick

Company named global toy partner for hotly anticipated sequel due in June 2020.

Mattel is set to take to the skies next summer with one of the hottest sequels around, having been named as global toy partner for Top Gun: Maverick.

The company has secured the rights to toys for the Paramount Pictures’ movie across multiple categories. These include die-cast vehicles and aircraft, play-sets, games and other toys.

The new line – which will be available globally ahead of the film’s US premiere, which is set for June 2020 – will aim to bring moments from both the classic film and the sequel to life.

“We are thrilled to bring TOP GUN to life for both kids and their parents who undoubtedly fell in love with the franchise over 30 years ago,” said Janet Hsu, chief franchise management officer at Mattel. “Our design-led approach has allowed us to recreate the high-octane action from the movie with a line of toys that will impress fans of all ages.”

Pam Kaufman, president of Viacom Nickelodeon Consumer Products, continued: “Top Gun: Maverick is one of the most anticipated movies next summer. The film has multi-generational appeal and lends itself to vehicle and role play toy categories.

“Top Gun: Maverick has all the ingredients to be a hit in theatres, as well as retail aisles.”
