Mattel adds Rosa Parks and Sally Ride to Barbie line

American activist and first American woman in space join Inspiring Women series.

Mattel has expanded its Barbie Inspiring Women series, welcoming Rosa Parks and Sally Ride to the line-up.

American activist Rosa is known as the mother of the modern civil rights movement, while Sally was the first American woman – and youngest American – to fly in space.

Both dolls – which launched on Women’s Equality Day in the US (August 26) – come with educational material about each woman’s contributions to society, authentic clothing and unique accessories, reported CNN.

Rosa and Sally join Amelia Earhart, Katherine Johnson and Frida Kahlo in the Inspiring Women collection.
