Mattel adds new look Ken to Barbie brand

Fashionistas line expanded with 15 new Ken dolls and added Barbie styles.

Mattel has grown the Barbie Fashionista brand, adding 15 new Ken dolls – featuring three body types – as well as new Barbie styles.

The new additions mean that the expanded Barbie Fashionistas line is the most diverse fashion doll range in the marketplace, Mattel has said.

The line includes 15 new Ken dolls with three body types, seven skin tones, eight hair colours, nine hairstyles – including a man bun – and modern fashions, ranging from casual business attire to athletic wear.

The brand is also introducing 25 additional diverse Barbie dolls.

These dolls join the 100+ diverse looks launched in the Barbie Fashionistas line in the last three years. In 2016, three new Barbie body types – tall, curvy and petite – plus new skin tones, eye colours, hairstyles and fashions were introduced to the Barbie line-up.

“By continuing to expand our product line, we are redefining what a Barbie or Ken doll looks like to this generation,” said Lisa McKnight, svp and general manager, Barbie.

“Evolving Ken was a natural evolution for the brand and allows girls to further personalise the role they want him to play in Barbie’s world.”

The Barbie Fashionistas segment continues to exceed expectations, as sales of the line see high double-digit growth globally.
