First licensed partnership secured following coverage on The Source earlier this year.
British sticker company Mardles has secured its first licensing partnership – teaming up with Aardman to bring Shaun the Sheep to life in his own augmented reality sticker collection.
The Source first covered Mardles back in January – the company was exhibiting at Toy Fair and told us how it was looking to have conversations with licensors.
Co-founder James Murden said: “We can’t thank LicensingSource enough for their support. Aardman approached us at Toy Fair on the back of the coverage we had from them before the show.”
The two Shaun the Sheep collections – Shaun to be Wild and Mayhem in the Meadow – are available from August 25 and cost £5.99 each.
They feature 12 stickers in six different designs (two of each) and let fans take Shaun for a ride on a skateboard or stunt bike, out for a pizza, play the trumpet and even capture his own selfie. Every animation is accompanied by genuine Shaun the Sheep sounds.
Each sticker is resuable and can be placed on any flat surface. When viewed through a free Mardles app for iOS, Android and Amazon, they come alive in 3D with sound effects.
To create the Shaun the Sheep collection, Aardman first shared a 3D model of Shaun with Mardles’ own design and production team. They then animated the model and initial concepts went back to Aardman for amendments and approvals. Once sound effects were added – voiced by the same team behind Shaun – the product was given the thumbs up by Mardles’ child testers.
James continued: “We’d advise anyone looking for a licensing deal to shout about it, it’s the only way to tell people that you’re out there and actively looking and as we found out, you never know who might come knocking at your door.”
Rob Goodchild, head of licensing at Aardman, added: “It’s great to be working with an innovative British company, giving our fans another way to play with Shaun the Sheep. The sticker packs look really good and we’ve had a lot of fun working with the Mardles team to bring the product to market.”
