The Snail and the Whale will be a highlight of the BBC1 2019 Christmas schedule.
The latest in Magic Light Pictures’ series of hit festive family specials, The Snail and the Whale is set to premiere in the UK on BBC One as a highlight of its 2019 Christmas schedule.
In addition, the company has also secured pre-sales for the 30-minute special with a number of major broadcasters across Europe and in Australia and Africa.
Alongside core partner ZDF, Germany, other confirmed pre-sales include France Télévisions; SVT Sweden; DR Denmark; RTE Ireland; ABC Australia; Showmax Africa; Czech Television; Noga Israel; VPRO Netherlands; and RTV Slovenia, with more broadcasters in discussion. The film will also be released in cinemas in France next year by Les Films Du Preau.
Based on the book by author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler, The Snail and the Whale follows the journey of a tiny snail who longs to see the world and manages to hitch a ride on the tail of a great humpback whale.
“The Snail and the Whale is a great classic children’s book and we are delighted to bring it to screen with the support of broadcasters worldwide,” said Michael Rose, co-founder of Magic Light Pictures. “Our brave little snail longs to travel around the world and now she will.”
The Magic Light specials have become a Christmas tradition on BBC1 and ZDF including The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child, Room on the Broom, Stick Man, The Highway Rat, Zog and Revolting Rhymes.
